"Where do I come from? A Dog Treasure Hunt"
~ by Lynne Boyle-Baise ~ New Book About Dogs for Kids!
What's special about this book? The author, Lynne Boyle-Baise, was a teacher and professor for over 25 years. Her special focus was social studies for elementary children. For the last decade, her passion has been showing Portuguese Water Dogs in competition. In this, her first children's book, she combines her love of social studies with her dedication to pure bred dogs. In Where do I come from? children learn the history of seven breeds from a "dog's eye view." The story is an adventure tale that invites kids to imagine what might happen next. Dogs learn about their special talents and, then, use them to get out of all sorts of trouble. Children practice geography as they trace the dogs' adventures on treasure maps. Travel from here to there is made simple through short poems easy for all to read. Most special, the canine characters are drawn from real dogs that represent the best of their breeds. Lipton, the main character, is a retired show dog from DoMarco Kennel, now working as a therapy/reading dog for primary grade children. This book was reviewed and perfected based on the suggestions of kids who read to Lipton. Where do I come from? is geared to children in grades 1-5. It is a great book to read with kids; adults can provide assistance with the geography of a treasure hunt. It is also best to read a few chapters at a time; dogs travel to seven countries after all. Invite a child you know to experience the fun of a dog treasure hunt. Take a peek inside the book:Lipton, a Portuguese Water Dog, was curious. He wondered: Who am I? Where do I come from? How can I find out? Lipton is no ordinary dog. He is a champion. He traveled all over the United States to compete in dog shows, flying in airplanes and riding in cars, trucks, and his family's SUV. He saw dogs that were large or small, fast or slow, noisy or quiet. Lipton thought, "Why are dogs different?" Lipton decided to ask his dog friends to help him find answers to his questions. Lipton's special friends are: Joy and Brisa, two energetic Havanese, Yoshi, a gentle Old English Sheepdog, Caillou, a laid-back Labrador Retriever, Stump, a sturdy Sussex Spaniel, L.E. (Ellie) an alert Standard Schnauzer, and Leeza, a curious Basenji. His friends barked with excitement. Let's do it! We can visit places where we come from. We can find clues about why we look and act differently! It will be like a treasure hunt. We will fly in airplanes, sail on ships, and ride on trains. What a trip! Let's get started!
